M&E Work Winning Director

The Opportunity
Our client, an established M&E building services contractor in Manchester, is looking for a M&E Work Winning Director to take ownership of the pipeline and bid function. It is a director-level appointment with genuine influence over which work the business pursues and how it goes to market, working from an existing client base, established framework positions and a strong delivery track record.
You would own how the business goes to market: the work winning strategy, the tender and bid process, the framework positions it holds and pursues, and the senior client relationships that sit behind them. It is a director-level appointment with real influence over which work the business chases and how it presents itself, working closely with the operational, commercial and estimating teams rather than at arm’s length from them.
The business now sits within a well-funded national technical services group with a clear growth strategy, so there is genuine appetite and resource behind this. Salary is £80,000 to £95,000 depending on experience, plus a profit related bonus and a full benefits package.
About the Business
Our client is an established M&E building services contractor based in Manchester, delivering mechanical and electrical engineering projects across a broad client base, with a smaller planned and reactive maintenance arm alongside. Their clients span commercial and corporate estates, retail, banking, education, healthcare, social housing, industrial and public sector, including a number of nationally recognised organisations and long-standing framework relationships.
The business sits within a well-funded national technical services group with a clear growth strategy, which gives this role real resource behind it: an integrated offer to take to market, opportunities to collaborate and cross-sell across the group, and a backer with genuine appetite for expansion.
Environmental performance is treated seriously rather than presentationally, with ISO 14001 compliance and a committed net zero target supported by a formal carbon reduction plan, which increasingly matters in public sector and framework submissions.
What You'll Be Doing
Owning the work winning strategy and the pipeline, from early opportunity identification through to contract award
Leading the bid and tender process, including bid/no bid decisions, submission quality and win strategy
Developing and maintaining framework positions, and identifying new frameworks worth pursuing
Building and holding senior client relationships with main contractors, consultants, developers and end clients
Working closely with the estimating, commercial and operational teams to ensure submissions are deliverable as well as competitive
Producing and improving the quality of PQQ, ITT and tender documentation, including the written and presentation elements
Identifying opportunities to collaborate and cross-sell with the wider group
Reporting on pipeline, conversion rates and forecast to the board, and using that data to sharpen where the business bids
Representing the business at industry events, client meetings and tender interviews
What We're Looking For
A proven work winning, bid or business development track record at senior level within M&E building services or building services contracting
Demonstrable success winning work through both competitive tender and framework routes
An established network across the North West market, particularly among main contractors, consultants and end clients
Commercially credible, with enough technical understanding of M&E delivery to hold a serious conversation with a client or a delivery team
Strong on submission quality, able to lead and improve written and presented bid content rather than just delegate it
Comfortable working across the business, since good work winning depends on operations and estimating as much as on sales
Public sector and framework experience is advantageous given the client base
Full UK driving licence
What's on Offer
£80,000 - £95,000 depending on experience
Profit related bonus, tying reward to the work you bring in and how it performs
Full benefits package
An established platform to grow from, rather than a pipeline to build from scratch
The backing of a well-funded group with a clear appetite for expansion and an integrated offer to take to market
Director-level influence over which work the business pursues and how it goes to market
