Role Purpose
The Mechanical Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day supervision and coordination of mechanical installation activities on site, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with project specifications, quality standards, and programme requirements.
The role involves managing mechanical operatives and subcontractors, coordinating with other disciplines, and supporting the Project Manager/Engineer in delivering successful project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all mechanical works are carried out in accordance with Dalkia procedures, project specifications, and relevant industry standards
- Promote and enforce a strong health & safety culture across all mechanical activities on site
- Ensure all operatives comply with site safety rules, RAMS (Risk Assessments & Method Statements), and permit systems
- Prepare, review, and brief method statements and risk assessments to the mechanical workforce
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise mechanical installation works in line with programme requirements
- Allocate work effectively to mechanical operatives and subcontractors to maximise productivity
- Monitor progress and report on mechanical installation status to the Project Manager/Engineer
- Raise accurate requisitions for mechanical materials, plant, and equipment in a timely manner
- Coordinate mechanical works with other trades and disciplines to avoid clashes and delays
- Ensure all works are carried out using the latest approved drawings and technical documentation
- Maintain quality standards, ensuring installations meet design specifications and workmanship expectations
- Identify and report any design issues, variations, or delays to the Project Manager/Engineer
- Supervise and manage mechanical subcontractors, addressing performance or compliance issues as required
- Complete and verify timesheets, progress reports, and site documentation
- Maintain site diaries and records relevant to mechanical activities
- Ensure correct PPE is worn and maintained by all personnel
- Support testing, commissioning, and handover processes for mechanical systems
- Assist with material take-offs, mark-ups, and interpretation of mechanical drawings
Person Specification
Essential:
- Proven experience in a Mechanical Supervisor role within building services or construction
- Time-served mechanical tradesperson (e.g. pipefitter, HVAC, plumber)
- Strong knowledge of mechanical installation systems (e.g. HVAC, pipework, public health systems)
- Demonstrable experience managing site teams and subcontractors
- Good understanding of health & safety legislation and site practices
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and specifications
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication skills
Desirable:
- SSSTS or SMSTS certification
- Relevant mechanical or supervisory qualifications
- Experience delivering projects within commercial or industrial sectors
