SEN Learning Support Assistant - High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire - Specialist Learning Environment

Work alongside specialist teachers supporting pupils with profound, complex and multiple learning needs.

SEN Learning Support Assistant opportunity in High Wycombe supporting pupils aged 7-19 with complex cognitive, sensory, communication and physical needs.

Are you an experienced SEN Learning Support Assistant looking for a role where communication, independence and individualised learning are central to the support you provide? - A specialist setting in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire is recruiting for a professional to support pupils aged 7-19, including young people working towards greater independence and preparation for adulthood.

The pupils have complex cognitive, sensory and communication needs and require highly individualised support.

The curriculum is designed around each pupil's specific needs, with a focus on helping learners:

• Communicate their needs, preferences and choices
• Develop greater independence
• Build relationships and social interaction
• Develop physical and motor skills
• Understand their environment
• Access learning by reducing barriers
• Develop skills that will support adult life

The majority of pupils access the EQUALS curriculum, while pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties may follow the ImPACTS curriculum, covering communication, cognitive skills, environmental control, social and emotional wellbeing and physical development.

As part of the wider education team, you will:

Support learning

• Assist pupils to access personalised learning activities
• Reinforce teaching and communication strategies
• Support literacy, phonics and functional learning

Support communication

• Encourage pupils to communicate choices, preferences and needs
• Use established communication approaches consistently
• Support interaction with staff and peers

Support wellbeing

• Recognise individual sensory and emotional needs
• Follow agreed low-arousal approaches
• Help create a safe and predictable learning environment

Support independence

• Encourage pupils to develop practical and life skills
• Promote appropriate decision-making
• Support physical development and participation in activities

You should have experience working with children, young people or adults with additional needs. Particularly relevant experience includes:

• Complex SEN
• PMLD
• Autism
• Communication difficulties
• Sensory needs
• Physical disabilities
• Specialist education
• Care or support work

You do not necessarily need previous experience of every approach used. What matters is the ability to learn individual strategies, work consistently and understand that every pupil's needs are different.
